Default How accurate are gender guesses at 12-13 week scans?

I had my 12-13 scan a few weeks ago & when I asked the sonographer if she could tell gender yet she gave us a strong indication that it would be a girl She zoomed in on the genital area, then said because there was what looked like a flat line instead of a doodle, she said it was a girl. She said she wouldn't of said anything if she was unsure, but she said with me it was easy to guess. So should I believe her?! Has anyone else seen something similar at this stage & it did turn out to be a girl?

I have hoped with all my heart that its a girl this time, but I don't want to get too excited IYKWIM. My next scan isn't until February 28th - I really want to start buying PINK now

She didn't take a snapshot when she was looking at gender. All of the other photos are blocking the area because its legs were all squished up

I had a 12 week scan with both pregnancies in my obs private room and he asked if we wanted to know the sex. We did so he told us.. we have 2 boys as he predicted both times.

I was told girl at 12 weeks and then again at 16 weeks so I think it's definitely possible to be able to tell. Sonographers wouldn't be so silly to say what they think if they weren't at least 99% sure

That's what I figured! Why make an estimate if you were really unsure? Well hopefully she was right, we'll see in 4 weeks!

Meanwhile I will save up for my new pram instead of buying baby clothes...for the moment anyway

I personally wouldnt be buying pink until its a bit more confirmed after 18 weeks.

Boys are EASY to pick on a scan. A poking up doodle is dam easy to spot lol. However. If the doodle is laying flat against the scrotum it can sometimes create that 3 white line picture that is most associated with girls.

Its also each to their own baby. Ive been doodle pictures (picture taken from behind the legs, through the thighs) and clearly seen a doodle.

However. Nub shots look dam close to being the same.

When I had my 12 week scan my sonographer wouldnt even bother looking between the legs. She simply said it was not accurate and a waste of time.

Certainly could be, Might have got a crystal clear shot but most of the time its boys that are predicted that early and not girls. They still look so similar until 13-14 weeks.

Hope its a girl for you, Just dont go buying pink just this second lol

Both pregnancies I've bed told a boy at the 12wk scan - correct both times.

I think most sonographers would not say anything unless they were quite certain themselves.
