    Default W.A country hospital?

Has anyone had experience of having a baby in York Hospital W.A?

My daughter is due in September and since I had both my girls in New Zealand many years ago Im vague about Australia maternity hospitals here.

Would she be expected to travel down to Perth? This is her first baby.

Sorry for being so uneducated about all this

    Thank you for any help

I doubt York would do maternity, I think the whole hospital is less than 20 beds. She may be able to deliver at Northam Hospital which is only about 30km away. Or Swan Districts which is at the eastern edge of perth (closest to York).

You can find info and their email addys at wacountry.health.wa.gov.au look in the Wheatbelt region section

You'd have to check some of te bigger hospitals do low risk births with go obstetricians, the doctors in town will be able to give her the options

    Thanks all

I think it may be safer when the time comes to head for the 'big smoke' and go back to Perth.

Northam hospital is only 20 mins away but sadly due to such a bed reputation since all the investigations into poor care my daughter doesnt want to go there

Maybe I will just head off to Perth and camp out closer to the date?

You can probably do most appointments with a gp through shared care, and then she'll only need to come down for a few appointments at the hospital. There is also a birthing centre in kalamunda.
