    Default DS and Newborn

I am expecting our second child in May. I am planning on getting DS1 his own doll for when his brother or sister arrives. I am wondering whether I should get him one before the new baby arrives so that we can play with it together for a while or wait until the baby is born? He will be 26mths when the baby is due. What have been others experiences? Did you find that getting a doll helped or was it a waste of time? I have also thought about getting a toddler digital camera. Any insight, opinions, advice is very much welcomed.

I dont have any experience in this but Id say wait until the baby is born before you get the doll, so the novelty doesnt wear off between now and then.

    Default DS and Newborn

I would wait until bub is born for a doll.

My DS1 was 24 months when DS2 came along. We bought DS1 a present from DS 2 and that was a hit. Never did the doll thing as he never showed interest in it and never showed real interest in BF until MUCH later when he was used to DS2.
Other friends have had their sons pretend BF their teddies.
We really focused on making sure DS1 still got lots of attention and some one on one time with both of us when DS2 was born.
One time everyone was focusing on DS2 and luckily DH noticed that DS 1 was on the outer circle trying to be cute and get attention, and wondering why the baby was getting it. He quickly distracted him and gave attention/ played a game. These were things which worked for us

I have just had DS2 a week ago and my gap is the same as yours.

We got the doll about a month ago and so glad we did. We used it to get DS1 used to seeing the bassinet, capsule etc around the house. Initially he tried to climb in to the bassinet but we used the doll to teach him that it was the babies bed, now he pays no attention to it at all. Has not really missed a beat at the babies arrival either. I'm sure wen DH goes back to work it will be different!

    Congratulations!!!!!

OP - DS is not at all interested in his doll. Waste of time here, but he got it for his birthday last week and is overwhelmed by all his new presents.
