The childcare one we have has two little metal buttons you push in at the same time to drop the side, Was it like that?

Yes and my arms are short so can't do two at once are they that way

With the drop side on mine you have to lift the side a little and push in the bottom rail with your leg, which means you can do it one handed. I got mine off eBay in a package with the change table - much cheaper and I love it! It's also got a height adjustable mattress and a drawer underneath for storage
