I was worried about mine too, as I had heard lots if horror stories but the dr who did mine said its actually not common for it to be really painful. It usually only is if you have a blocked tube.
Mine was totally fine and I have a retrovered uterus too, it didn't make any difference. Mine was over quickly and didn't hurt at all, maybe just a little cramp but nothing really.

Preparing for a HSG and lipiodol flush and your feedback on them?

I had mine yesterday and can honestly say that I was stressed over nothing! Did not really hurt at all, was super quick and I have only had mild cramping since (off and on). I actually find pap smears worse!
Apparently my tubes were clear so that may have made it painfree, not to mention I took painkillers before I went in.
The one thing I am worried about is that they were meant to do a lipiodal flush too (which I supplied) but I have a feeling they forgot to do it. It felt like only 30 secs from when they put the dye in to when it was all over so I not sure how they got the time to do the flush as well. I asked the nurse(?) and she said he had done it but I am not sure ... it is meant to be thick gluggy fluid but I have lost nothing since the procedure (except tiny little bit of dye) and I am sure she said I might have some loss down there after.
Has anyone else had the lipiodal flush done and what was your after experience with it?
Also were you told when you could start ttc again after the HSG?? Some say you can try straight away where I have heard that other people have been told to wait for 48 hours!

Hi Stormgirl - I'm trying to look into a lipiodol flush now. Where did you get it from, and why did you supply it? My FS is trying to find out if he can easily get it for me, otherwise he is talking HyCoSy. Is that the same thing as HSG?
I'm intriguied that they did both on you. I would've thought if they're doing it with the lipiodol, then why would they use the dye. They do the same thing, just different medium. Or maybe I'm confused!

I am not 100% sure of the difference but I think a HSG is done using an x-ray while a HyCoSy uses an ultrasound.
What state are you in?? I had to get the lipiodol flush from a pharmacy in Brisbane city, my fs gave me a prescription for it (cost about $120 as not on PBS). Then you have to find a location that will do a lipiodal flush (fs should help with that).
I don't think the flush is widely used as they said at the X Ray clinic that they don't get many.

Thanks stormgirl. I'm in Sydney. There is a specialist O&G scanning place that shares the floor with my clinic (IVF Australia) - they're not part of them, but they work together a lot beause they kind of share the offices. My FS was going to ask the head radiologist dude there about the lipiodol. And if it was hard to get, then he said he'd just do a HyCoSy with the normal medium. Not sure if it serves the same purpose though. He seemed pretty doubtful of lipiodol's charms, shall we say.
