Default Thoughts on baby girls name...

Wow, DF and me have been agreeing to disagree over girls names for months.

I like the nickname Tiggy which he doesn't mind but I was thinking it can be a 'short name' for Tegan, which means little poet/beautiful, but he doesn't like that.

He thinks just go with Tiggy, but I feel like she needs a proper name for christening, when we need to be serious and tell her off, drivers licence, job applications, stuff like that (really thinking in advance here!)... What do you think?

    BP fan fwiw:-)

Honestly, if you're having qualms about having her formally named Tiggy, then I would give her the official/formal name Tegan, but from the getgo call her Tiggy and then everyone else with follow suit. Tiggy is a very popular nickname among british aristocracy.

The adult Tegan I know has the nickname Teegs.

    What is BP?

Hi OP, I love Beatrix Potter too! I'd love to call my daughter Jemima, but called my duck it instead

I also dislike Tegan and think there could be something a bit nicer to shorten to Tiggy. I googled it, how about Tabitha, Alexandra or Elizabeth? Apparently the 'real' name that gets shortened is Antigone, but no idea how to pronounce that!
    Tabitha is nice...

I vote Tabitha - it has the added bonus of having a BP connection too.

I wouldn't use it on its own... I don't know if it's necessarily a name a grown woman wants to have. Cute on a cheeky little girl, a bit naff on an adult, kwim?

I'd definitely go with a name you can use and just shorten it to Tiggy... or, alternatively, give her a middle name she can use as a first name if she decides Tiggy is just too much for her later in life.

Not a fan of Tiggy as a first name. How about Therese/ Theresa/ Thea /Tina and using Tiggy as a nickname?
