You can become a chef by doing a 4 year apprenticeship, with 2.5 years of that at tafe 1 day a week. But to get the title "chef" as in "yes Chef" you need to be the head chef. So depending on where you work this usually means working your way up through the ranks until you are the head chef -

    1st yr apprentice
    2nd yr apprentice
    3rd yr..
    4th yr..
    Commis Chef (qualified chef)
    Demi Chef (Snr qualified chef)
Chef de Partie (in charge of a section)
Jr Sous Chef (3rd in charge)
    Sous Chef (2nd in charge)
    Head Chef (boss)
And sometimes Executive Chef (usually large hotels etc, the big boss)

You are usually in each roll for a year average but now days people move up the ranks a lot quicker. I started my apprenticeship at 16 and was in my first head chef roll at 24.

Hope this helped & isn't too confusing!

    ok no spoilers then!!

i have been thinking about the eliminations though an i think it sucks that someone could end up going home based on one dish, surely a points system would be fairer?
