secondly * whenever she goes to the appstore it is in a foreign language that she cannot read.

thirdly * the wall charger is for a foreign country so she has to charge it from the USB port from her laptop instead. (I should be able to solve this problem for her as I have a few wall adapters.)
If she takes the phone to a phone shop, they will be able to let her know what model it is. Also you can get an charger for the iphone at kmart for $10.

If you google how to change language in iphone, you should be able to change the ap store thing.

    Default Which smartphone?

Sweetseven, is the phone square-ish or more rounded? If its round it's probably a 3GS.
If its squarer, and she holds down the button & gets 'Siri', it's a 4s, or if Siri doesn't appear it's a 4. That's probably the easiest way.

Her father has a 4 and it is definately different to that.

I suggested perhaps it was a 3, and she suggested it could be a 1 or 2. Now I'm starting to wonder if there is any such thing as a 1 or 2, or is a 3 the first model?

    Default Which smartphone?

It was iPhone 3G (as in the network) that was released in australia first.

Get her to go into settings, then general, then about, it will have the model in there, then you can google what it is

If it's an overseas model it could be one before 3gs. Check the about phone under settings.

yup the best way is to check the settings, information about the phone, memory capacity and model number can be looked up from there too.
