Default stage 2 - Do you have to change?

I'm using aptamil gold + and my dd recently turned 6 months. we have her on stage 2 plus doing blw, but she is only 6 kgs and isn't doing too well with the extra iron in stage 2.

do you have to move on from stage one?

Our community health midwife told us it's fine to keep bub on stage 1 as the other stages are just a marketing thing.
