Default Contraceptive pill prior to start of IVF treatment

    Hi Ladies
I have searched through all my written information and googled but cannot find the answer to my question and was hoping someone could help me?

I am due to start taking the contraceptive pill in the next few days as part of my long down reg cycle (first attempt) and am unsure if I should start on the "sugar pills" as per the pack instructions or start on the regular pill?
If anyone knows it would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance

Check with ur nurse but you should most likely start the active pills not the sugar pills.

They are prob wanting to time your cycle and bring on AF.

You usually start the active pills around day 2 of your cycle.

That's what I thought but my clinic won't reopen in time for me to ask before I'm supposed to start taking them (day 1 of AF). Why can't it just be clear in all the information? (Sigh)

Def the active pills then. You usually take them for a week or two then stop, have a bleed then start injecting.

I'm just starting my first down reg too. I started on the sugar pills. I just assumed that was what I should do!!?? No one told me otherwise! I wanted to have a full period too and was worried I wouldn't if I went straight onto the active pills.

I am on the pill for a month and will start stims after next AF starts.

I don't get a full period when I start my pills, 2 days max (usually 7-10).

I think I'm supposed to take them for almost a full month too (3 weeks I think they said). I know IVF cycles are different for everybody but I thought this part of it would be pretty standard :S the only information the clinic gave me is a rough time line of meds which in regards to the pill only says "daily pill".... Not helpful!

When u start them for 3 weeks, it's usually 3 weeks of active pills from the 1st or 2nd day of your period.

The sugar pills are just a placebo for people taking it for contraception to have a break to get AF but so you still remember to take a pill every day.

If you are worried I would def call your clinic, doesn't it have a nurse mobile? I've always started the pill (the active pills) on the 2nd day of AF If you wait 7 days then you'll start producing a follicle.

That makes perfect sense to me thanks so much! I will try to double check with the nurse ASAP but start the active pills in the meantime if I need too.
