My son got into Lego at 3...His Dad helped him at that age to put it together... but always a joint effort.
Now at age 5 he's capable of reading the instructions and putting it all together about 99% of the time so needs minimal help.

*spin off* Do you put together your kids Lego or do they?
We do Duplo at this stage and I put it together to the brief for my own amusement, while they watch. Then we play/rebuild not to brief together.
I could never gift it built though.

Lego is something DD likes me to do with her. She does it all herself, I am supposed to just sit and watch and admire
but its fun. she loves it and will pull it apart and build it again lots of times
