Tell me everything please. Bub is in a lot of pain and I'm so confused. I have tried all the physical things for over a week without success.
Zantac is it good, bad. Will bub outgrow reflux? What impact will Zantac have on his long term health and development.

Hi, sorry to hear your bub is not feeling well. I don't know much about Zantac, but I'm sure it steering have any long term effects. Where I work, most people use Omeprazole, more commonly known Losec. It can be made into a suspension but is not as effective as dissolving the tablets in water. You do require a prescription for it though.

I've heard Zantac can often make babies vomit more & is not always effective. My bub is on losec (as mentioned above) initially prescribed by our gp & then paed. It's made a huge difference in my baby. Babies do generally grow out of reflux. Our paed recommended trialling her off it every 2 months to see if she still needs it.

Zantac worked wonders for our ds. He was really late to be diagnosed (terrible gp!!), 9 months and only needed it for about 4 months then he was fine.

I so feel for you my 5 month DS has been on Zantac for.. Well, 4 months now and I have found it to be a lifesaver. I was a mess watching my tiny baby in so much pain. He didn't much like the peppermint flavour to begin with (he is breastfed, so couldn't just put in his bottle which would have been easier!) but is now used to it and takes it easily from a syringe. Apparently they do grow out of reflux as they are upright more and gut more mature etc. Feel free to ask me any specific questions you have!! But if you are feeling anything like I was 4 months ago all I can say is go for it, Zantac has helped my bub (and therefore me!) so much

Oh and it doesn't stop his vomiting at all but stops it from burning on the way up

DD had Zantac from 6 weeks, it worked brilliantly, she was still chucky but not screaming all the time. Can't remember when we stopped, but she's 5 now and no ill effects at all

Thanks guys we started last night and no regrets. He had terrible night cried from 7pm to 11pm and then kept waking himself up in pain. I heard it takes a while to work (or for damage osoph to heal)
