We do homemade presents for teachers or carers so it doesn't end up costing much. I only ever bother making the effort with homemade stuff for people who are important to us so the value is reflected in that.

Ds1 has had the same teacher for two years now (repeated prep) and we decided to make a 'cookie in a jar'. We personalized it for her and she loved it. It obviously cut down cost for us and I think it was a better gift then something generic.

Teacher gifts... How much do you spend?
I went completely overboard this year. DS had the most AMAZING teacher who was just beyond awesome with him. Absolutely enternally grateful to her for everything.
I spent about $100. I got a gourmet food hamper, wine glasses and a platter.

DS teacher last year was amazing. We spent about $30 and got a succulent plant (she was all about 'save water' and 'healthy living') and a pot and DS painted a picture the pot...we then attached a tag saying "thank you for helping me grow" and gave that to her along with a rather long thank you letter from me. I would have happily spent alot more buying her something really special but she was the type who would appreciate something small and meaningful.
Teacher this year is good but not as good...and we are kind of broke so she is getting a card with candy canes and a small thank you note.

Teacher gifts... How much do you spend?
I made fabric covered button bookmarks for all the teachers this year, as well as a sample packet of Christmas tea. Other years I've bought Crabtree & Evelyn jams or cookies

Re: Teacher gifts... How much do you spend?
Reason I ask is... My son's teacher told me I was Soooo generous for giving a $20 gift card and flowers..... I thought it sad that that was the most generous monetary gift she'd been given :-( After all they do for our kids day in and out, I didn't think $20 was generous at all.

Teacher gifts... How much do you spend?
I'm a teacher and have been given some fabulous presents from families. It is do nice to be appreciated for all the hard work we put in (my friends are amazed at the hundreds of hours per term I put in after school and during my holidays). Some of the best presents have come from families who have gotten to know me eg one family knew I loved o

Re: Teacher gifts... How much do you spend?
Why would the amount you spend reflect how much you value them? I had 14 teachers/carers to buy for and I simply can't afford to spend that much. They all got a nice xmas decoration and a thoughtful card, probably I spent about $6 each. for dd1's teacher's cards I got dd1 to dictate the card and she did a wonderful job.
