It's a slippery slope if society ceases to raise a united voice for those that are unable to speak alone.

    They were not strangers

The child's paternal relatives, who had shared parenting responsibilities before the relationship between Rebecca and the girl's father ended,

Yes, prior to this they had shared responsibility. Knowing how long it takes to get through court, even if they started action immediately after the separation, they were no longer a direct part. They had ceased to be a direct part of the family.

Surely anyone putting the child first would want to transition the child. This was all relatively new. They were relative strangers.

They weren't complete strangers, but they had ceased to be an active part of this girls life. Hence relative

Just heartbreaking. She should be given more support.

I wonder how the child felt, maybe she mentioned she didn't feel her mum was able to care for her?

Good point. Maybe the child raised the concerns. Maybe the mother has the mental capacity of an 11 year old and it is ridiculous for her to raise a child. Perhaps there have been 'incidents' that we don't know about. We just don't know enough to enable us to competently second guess a judges decision.

If this child was at risk with her mother, docs would've been told somehow!

Having a mild intellectual disability doesn't mean that she can't look after her child. That's a bit discriminatory.

This is so sad that a potential dx at the age of 4,5,6 or 8 set about to assist a child will come back to haunt them, and their children later in life. Heartbreaking.
