    Default Smacking your child

My parents used excessive force when disciplining my sisters and I (wooden spoons, metal rake, cane, lashing out with anything they could get their hands on) and it will definitely not be how I discipline my son. I believe there are better methods

I personally have never felt the need to smack. If you take a second to stop and actually think in the moment of rage you can usually come up with a punishment that doesn't involve physically hurting your child.

Well I've only ever heard of a hotbox as when you smoke weed in a sealed up space (eg: car) for maximum weed intake. Never knew it was also a bain marie.

When I was a child my brother and I were both smacked. Unfortunately for us, in our house that involved the use of wooden spoons, leather belts and hands. When I would back chat to my Mum or do something else to significantly annoy her, I would get a slap across the face, which is something my brother never got for some reason.

I remember being a kid hiding on the top of the bunk bed to avoid getting a smack. I would be terrified if I did something wrong in case I got the wooden spoon/belt.

I don't resent my parents for disciplining us in this way, as they felt they were doing the right thing at the time. I won't use smacking to the same extent they did, but I am not opposed to giving a small pat on the backside if all other methods fail. I wouldn't use it as my primary method of disciplining though.
