    Default Finding heartbeat with doppler...

So today I have appointment with my OB and he tried to find bubs heart beat with the doppler. He tried for ages but couldn't find anything.

He told me not to worry as I have been feeling movement and I am measuring slightly ahead. I am 18w 2d today and I am a size 18. He did say that sometimes if u are chubbier it can be 20weeks plus before they can find it with doppler.

Of course I am now stressing out a bit. Has anyone else had this happen?

Thank you for your reply. I am trying not to worry but it's hard. Now I'm second guessing myself, was it kicks I feel or gas or something!? Yes I am a bit chubby but I'm tall too so I'm not massive.

I just wish he had found it, may scan is a week today and seems a million miles away now :-(

Are you seeing a private OB? Mine has an ultrasound machine too that I can request at any appointment for peace of mind. He charges the same amount Medicare covers for this $70, do I'm not of pocket.

If he can't find it next week, maybe request the proper ultrasound?

Stressing isn't good for you or the baby. My DD was an octopus and I constantly felt her and had no issues with doppler.
This time round (i'm 30 weeks now) I hardly feel any movement. I called my GP last week asking if I could come in so she could check with a doppler as I hadn't felt anything for a few days and she said I should go to labour ward at local hospital as they are more equiped. I felt guilty wasting their time but the midwives were so lovely. Said they'd prefer 100 false alarms than miss something important. They hooked me up to a machine and monitored heartbeat for half hour, then gave me a scan. All was fine.
She said not to hesitate popping in at any point, as peace of mind for the mother is important.

    Default Finding heartbeat with doppler...

I'm a size 18 and my gp could get a heartbeat at 11 weeks with my first and the midwives picked up my 2nd's heartbeat at my first antenatal appt at 14 weeks.

Tbh I am bit surprised your OB couldn't get it at 18 weeks.

    Default Finding heartbeat with doppler...

I am only 13wks 5d but am worrying about the same thing! I had my first midwife app at 13 weeks and she couldn't find a heartbeat. She tried for ages and even went and got a second "more sensitive" doppler! She said its normal not to hear it yet but it seems most people I talk to do hear it now or even before 13 wks

Like your pic! Great minds think alike

    Default Finding heartbeat with doppler...

My OB said he can find it on skinny people around 13-14 weeks but later the bigger u are. Maybe he has a basic doppler or something?

I am trying not to worry because I know it's not good for me or bub but its very hard. I have been trying to focus on feeling kicks but now I am second guessing myself. I'm sure I have felt some today but I still scared.

I wish he had never tried to do it now...

I would call the hospital & ask to be checked so you don't need to stress. Good luck!

Can I do this at a private hospital? Would they see me even though I'm only 18 weeks?
