I don't have any entitlement mentality. I've never been on benefits in my life, but I do receive child care rebate.

I guess some people like to look down on others who are less fortunate than us, sadly!

As someone who did 'live' on the dole for years I find your attitude.so sheltered,

Getting a job is easy ... Yeah right!
Tell that to the 6 plus employers who rejected me fortnightly for 2 years.

It's funny how people always refer to the few people who don't ever work. They are in the tiniest minority. Get over it. Majority of people who need assistance don't stay on for long and laze around all day doing nothing. If my husband lost his job, there is no way we could survive on that money.
Yeah so do I? Biscuits and dip for DH and treats for dessert are the extras.. Your groceries must be made out of gold.

Yep. People often forget that little tidbit. The last time I was unemployed, it too me six months to find a job because no-one would hire me as I had been in a managerial position. Meanwhile, I only had $30 a week after rent and couldn't afford to eat properly. It was awful.

I am very grateful, though I shouldn‘t have to be. NO government should let their people live below the poverty line. It‘s disgraceful that people feel they ‘‘should‘‘ be grateful. I find it appaling that the senate has said ‘‘to heck with them.‘‘ No, the dole isnt meant to be a long term thing, but for the people who do need it? Then i dont think they should be forced into poverty because of circumstances they can‘t control.

I might just say it again. Fining a job requires resources: Transport. A phone. Half-decent clothes and shoes. Computer access. A decent meal so that you can function. If you can't even afford rent and bills, where are you supposed to get these things from??
