Default when did u start using fluoride toothpaste?

We currently brush 2 yr old DDs teeth with fluoride free toothpaste.

The dentist has told us to use colgate for kids etc.

She will rinse and spit at the end most of the time but still swallows during the cleaning process.

Am i doing the right thing? I dont want her swallowing regular toothpaste but dental health is also a big thing for me.

We are currently using Jack N Jill - is this the best?

    Any advice?

Never. I don't use it myself. I am personally very careful about using any chemicals in the home. Gumption amd napisan are the only non natural cleaning things I have. I've tried Jack and Jill but prefer the Snappy Jaws one - they were 'eating' the Jack and Jill too much In my opinion, a healthy diet, plenty of water, no sugars before bed and good teeth cleaning is all you need. I have read that bad teeth are an expression of ill health elsewhere in the body (not sure what truth there is to that but have read it in more than one place)

Isn't the kids Colgate low fluoride? Thousands of kids use regular toothpaste with no issues. There is also fluoride in drinking water in most place. I wouldn't worry about it, personally.

I think its all the other chemicals in colgate thats the issue too. Plus it even says on the tube 'do not swallow'

we started giving DS (now 2 1/2) colgate for kids from 18months which was recommended by our CHN. My 1 year old brushes his teeth with just water.

Which chemicals are you worried about, exactly? Most of the chemicals that people worry about in household products aren't actually harmful, for the most part its just media beat up and scare mongering (this is from someone with a background in chemistry).

You would have to swallow a LOT of toothpaste to have any ill-effects. With little kids, you should only be using a tiny amount anyway. I really don't think its that big a deal at all, I'd rather my child maintain good dental health because its something you can never really get back once damage is done.
But of course, its up to you to decide what you think is best for your child.

We started using the Colgate toothpaste for kids around 18 months. But DD doesnt know how to spit it out yet, hes 21 months now, so what I do is I put a tiny bit of toothpaste on a clean wash cloth then i wrap it around my finger and then clean his teeth with it. Afterwards I give him his tooth brush and let him finish brushing with water.
That way he doesnt swallow any toothpaste
