Default Private ob, public hospital, how much for no insurance? And epi?

I don't currently have private health insurance, just looking into it now. I have an appt early Feb to see FS for IVF for bub number 2 and know that I can't claim any pregnancy related costs for at least 9 months after starting a policy (12 monts for some). I wanted to know how much I may be out of pocket for the actual birth if I were to deliver as a private patient in a public hospital with no insurance? Just want to make sure it is worth it as if I get utd as quickly with baby no. 2 as I did with no. 1 most of my appts with ob wouldn't be covered until well into the pregnancy, mostly just the birth!

Also if anyone knows, can I elect to have an epidural as a private patient in a public hospital? I had one with DD but I want it guarateed this time to save anxiety as to whether I will get it!

Private health only covers in hospital costs, so if you get phi 3ish months prior to falling pregnant you should be fine- Ie: as long as bubs is born 12 months after insurance starts (or 9 in some cases) your stay is covered.

Either way you will be out of pocket for your obs appts this varies greatly and seems to depend on the area you live in.

Hopefully another poster can give you Info about using a private ob in a public hospital
