Mine were $4800 3 years ago and I think I got about $1000 back from private health. I also had to have $5000 worth of dental work done before the braces could go on (8 teeth out)

We have paid $1800 for DS2's braces and Orthodontic work. He's had top and bottom braces and now wears a retainer at night.

We have paid 0. We are going through the public orthodontist. Dd2 is in her 5th year of treatment. So For she had many many set of double plates. Expansion plates. Currently she has top and bottom braces and will get the last few teeth ringed in preparation for her first in a series of surgeries late this year.

Thank you for posting this - I was told at the end of last year that DS needed braces but have avoided making an appointment with an orthodontist for him due to the cost of the initial appointment let alone braces. I had no idea that the dental hospital did orthodontical work but feel much better knowing I can organise a referral from the public system (& somewhat grumpy with the dentist that saw him who declined to tell me that was an option)

How did you get onto this?

I have a pension card as a single parent, so the dentist I see is the hospital dentist, they're 5th year dental students, I assume the orthodontist you see are similar?

We went through the school dental van.
There problem has to be certain level. It can't be pure cosmetic.

No she is not a student. We haven't seen a student orthodontist. She is a specialist paediatric orthodontist. She is the head of her dept. We having been seeing her for more than 5 years. We have seen one student cosmetic surgeon.

I read that in their information - definitely isn't pure cosmetic for DS - was told that braces will be essential for preservation of what adult teeth he has, but will also move teeth around to compensate for front adult teeth that are non existent so that part won't be a problem
