Default Dance lessons, did the help or hinder your child's dancing..

My 5 year old son seems to love to dance lately, at home, at the shops, if he hears a good tune he'll dance to it.

I'm wondering if enrolling him in dance lessons will turn something he seems to love, and do so naturally, onto a chore? Or, worse that lessons would make him dread dance and make him self conscious?

What have been your experiences with dance lessons, did you start your old at 5 years or even younger? Did they still love it, even after starting lessons.

My DD started at 5 once she started at school and she still absolutely lives it. She's asking me about lessons in the school holidays so she doesn't forget lol. Go for it I say.

My daughter was the same at 4 years old and is now in her 5th year of dancing participating in Jazz, Hip Hop and contemporary.

It can't hurt for them to try and usually at a young age it is more about moving in time to music, which kids do naturally and then as they progress structure and stance becomes involved.

I think dance was the best thing ever for my girl, she is so shy yet will get up and preform in front of 600+ people every year

I can't say for my son yet but I started when I was 3, stopped this year and I loved it!!

My brother started when he was about 7, really got into it when he was around 10 when he started break dancing and hip hop and now at 16 is a great dancer. He is very confident and dances in everything at school and has performed at different events

You have to find a great school though and a teacher that your child loves. If they don't like the teacher or feel comfortable going then try somewhere else because that will hinder them being as good as they could be.
