Today my gorgeous, funny, happy, outgoing little boy is 1. Among everything else we're celebrating today, I'm stoked that I reached my original goal of breastfeeding for 12 months with no formula .
Those first few weeks were pretty tough. He wasn't very interested in feeding for his first few days and we needed a nipple shield. I got through it with the wonderful support of my midwives, my husband and my in laws. I also only ever thought about the next feed - for weeks my life was lived in three to four hour blocks.
But we made it! Once we got over those first few hurdles and everything fell into place I decided that rather than wean after 12 months, I'd keep feeding DS until he chose to wean. So our journey continues!
