    Now they want to replace my sim (okay with that) and then send my phone off for repair. Um what am I supposed to use as a phone until then???

    Sorry haven't read whole thread... had this exact issue, provider tried to charge me over $800 in contract cancellation fees. Long story short, sent it off to the mobile phone ombudsmen (I recommend going with them, free & excellent service), contract was thrown out with apologies from the provider.
    Companies are always trying to screw the little guy, make sure you stand up for your rights.

    Wooo! Finally got the number of the loyalty number of Virgin, cancelling contract and just have to pay the handset payout fee (fair enough as I get to keep my iPhone) but are deducting a $100 off it. Telstra here we come!

    The best part was them saying "we don't guarantee coverage anywhere in Australia"
