    Default Making an activity box

For DS, for when the baby comes. BH has given me the excellent idea of having 'special toys' that only come out when I need to BF, to keep DS occupied. What I was thinking of doing was making 6 or so boxes with new/interesting things inside that I can rotate, and would like some ideas in what to put in them. I want to keep the boxes fairly small- shoebox size.
This is what I've thought of so far:

-snacks (dried fruit, muesli bars, small packet of rice cakes)
    -matchbox cars
    -glow sticks
    -bouncy balls
-chapstick (he loves putting on my lipstick)
    -small books (little golden books)
    -magazines
    -sticker books
    -small figurines

What else? Nothing that can make too much mess or requires my help.

Be careful with the glow sticks. Dd put one in her mouth once and burnt her mouth.

    blocks
with the match box cars you could make up a 'track' either on material or paper to go with it
make a 'fishing' box by sticking a magnet to a string on a stick (big enough not to be a choking risk) and then make fishes etc with magnets in the middle - then he can go fishing.

    Default Making an activity box

Dried pasta shapes that you can separate into size/shape
    Buttons - again to separate
    Special books

Also for witching hour in the afternoons I'd take DD1 to a park or for a walk and feed dd2 in the sling/carrier.

For a two year old I would have -
    - some of those pull back cars (the ones you pull back and then let go)
    - some puzzles
    - a felt board and shapes
    - a magnetic board and magnet shapes
    - some chunky felt pens or crayons and some home made "notebooks" or a clipboard
    - a magnadoodle
    - A shape sorter
    - some mobilo or really cool duplo
