I worked for Estee Lauder a few years ago and it was never our job to pour on the makeup. It was, however, imperative that we sold $5,000 of stuff a week. The other poster who mentioned makeup training is right. You don't have to be qualified in anything to work on the counter and the girls with the caked on makeup are those who don't know how to put it on properly.
