What?? Yep sorry I think you're jilted there...

Of course single parents and their children are family! What else are they? Non-family?

Agree with the majority - of course single parent + child(ren) = family.

Everyone's family is different. As far as I'm concerned, my family consists of myself, my partner, our daughter, my parents, my sister & her husband, my partner's mum & her daughter, my partner's dad, his partner and their kids.

That's what I see as the standard family part- - what immediately comes to mind if someone asks about my family.. Extended family would also include aunts, uncles, cousins etc., and what I call "our little family" is just the 3 of us.

Edit: Yes, perhaps an old thread, but potentially an interesting discussion

So any family where there is only one adult isn't actually a family?

That's a huge load of bull dung.

Maybe im wrong.but i work and have young kids half the time and it sucks not a good family where kids go back and forth no security and always missing me when gone.then the finacial dificulties.
As opposed to teaching them to stay in a unhappy, unstable potentially violent environment? Teaching them that their own happiness and wellbeing doesn't matter, that staying together as a 'family' does???
