Do you have any low-cost meals that you cook when finances are tight? Please share!
Going through a really tough financial situation at the moment, so trying to cut down on expenses as much as possible over the next few weeks.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

We just use cheap home brand pasta.
Big tin of tuna
And tuna bake pasta sauce.
It costs just over $5 all up.
I bag and freeze it for DHs lunches and it makes about 5-6 bags.

We lived off pasta bake and eggs for quite some time
I found some really cheap recipes from the books "4 ingredients"
Also if you have lots of pasta, just check out the pasta sauce isle in the supermarket, pasta is my go to food when we are a little low on cash.

Re: Budget recipes?
Can't think of any recipes off the top of my head, but most meals I cook are pretty budget. I slow cook cheap cuts of meat a fair bit, eat a fair bit of veggie meals, and bulk up everything with extra veggies and pulses. Pretty much everything I make gets some beans or lentils chucked in it

Chilli con carne can be super cheap if you make it in a big lot and freeze.
I use a big tin of crushed tomatoes, tin of 4 bean mix,a fresh sweet chilli ( so its mild for DD), onion and cheap mince (we cook it and drain the fat off before mixing other ingredients in). Add some herbs or seasoning that you have in your cupboard or extra flavor. We serve with bread slices or rice.
Tuna mornay is another great one. Cheap tin of tuna. Make a basic white sauce and use the brine from the tuna in it for flavor and serve with rice. Can also add curry powder for a curry tuna dish.
Curry sausages or sausage casserole.
Baked beans with toast pita bread chips

I'm cooking the tuna pasta bake as we speak! What a great, cheap meal! I've also added a can of peas and corn and some grated carrot through it. $5 meal for a family of three (well, my fiancé and son eat so much that it's really like feeding a family of 4 :P ), awesome!
ETA: The tuna bake was delicious! Definitely one I'll be making again. Thanks for the idea

I have packed the freezer full of meats that I bought on special today, so we will definitely make it through the week, thankfully!
