    Default Plaster cast issue

    Hello,

My little girl has a hairline fracture on her right leg (caused by jumping on the trampoline)...so she has a temporary cast from her thigh to her toes while we wait for the Fracture Clinic to send us an appointment.

My issue is, she suffers from eczema and in Brisbane it has been very hot and humid, not to mention the current plaster is very heavy and she is starting to get very frustrated.

At the moment we are looking at 2 weeks before we can be seen for a proper fibreglass cast.

Our options appear to be: wait for the fracture clinic to call, go into the queue at Redcliffe hospital which might take as long, or seek private doctors service.

Could anybody provide any recommendations please on the North Side of Brisbane?

    Thanks in advance.

arghh be very careful! My daughter did the same thing at 3yrs old, had a fibreglass cast on.

She also has eczema, and when the cast was removed, there were massive, bleeding sores all over her little leg

I would really recommend Dr Geoff Donald. He's public, but you can also opt to see him privately at either St Andrews or the RCH. He was our dr for my daughters fractured elbow which was complicated by the fact that the first idiot dr put her cast on with no wool underneath so the plaster fused to here skin and she ended up getting a burn. The fracture clinic at the RCH is where I would go instead of waiting at red cliffs

Thanks for your replies. After reading LivinOnAPrayers reply we thought it best to stick with the temp cast for a while, hoping it would let her skin breathe. We had our appointment with the RCH fracture clinic last Wednesday and the eczema was the first thing I checked.....it didn't look too bad at first but then it started flaring up before my eyes. Luckily I was ready with the advanten, so hoping that helps alleviate it a bit. We are now sporting a lovely purple cast with pink stripes for the next 11 days (and counting!). Oh and Dr Donald is the Dr we were scheduled to see (according to the letter i was sent) but we saw a female Dr instead so I guess he was busy elsewhere. She was lovely too though .
