I've read a few parenting websites stating 8 - 10 colds in the first year of a baby's life is average and to be expected.
Has this been true for you? Or for toddlers/older kids?

Really? In the first year my kids never got sick, i don't recall them getting any colds but they may have had a minor one that i just don't remember - certainly not 8-10.
After 1 they probably get about 4 colds a year approximately, usually just minor ones.

Nah not true here. Hayden wasn't sick at all until he went to daycare at 7 months old, and then he seemed to have a cold pretty much constantly for the next 6 months or so, and has hardly been sick at all since.
Mikayla, is 14 months now and has not had one single cold. She's had gastro twice and hand foot and mouth once, but no cold. So she's been sick 3 times in total in her 14 months, but none of them a cold.

DS is about to turn 1 and has had maybe 4 colds. I'm a SAHM though and I think that makes a huge difference. Everyone I know who has kids in daycare have been ill lots more than he has.

Yeah it seemed like a pretty extreme figure to me, just wondering if it was true for many parents!

Not true for mine as babies, but might be close to that in the first two years of starting school.

Yes that was fairly true for mine. My son has always been healthy, but every time new teeth broke through he had a "cold" (runny nose/temp/etc) for a few days. I remember taking him swimming from about 5 months til nearly 1year old, and we cancelled so many lessons due to him being sick with a cold.
He's been healthy now for months, but yep that first year it was more of a teeth-inducing cold than actually being sick I spose.

My first had 1 cold in her first year, but then easily 15-20 illnesses in her second when she started daycare.
My second had about 15-20 illnesses/viruses in his first year (thankfully non serious) including colds, hand foot & mouth, ear infections etc. His older sister was in daycare 3 days a week and must have been a carrier (she rarely got sick herself)

Nope my DS was not sick at all in his first year, he is just about 17 months and has had one cold.

Not for us, 23 month old DS has luckily only had 3 colds so far
