Default What do you think about little boys playing with toy guns?

I'm going to avoid them for as long as I can.

We have nerf guns that the kids play with. Big and bright and the darts are soft. They end up spending more time picking up darts than shooting.

I won't buy black or realistic looking toy guns, but have explained the difference between us playing and what's real.

I think most kids, particuarly boys develope an interest and have a desire to play with them at some stage. I'm not a fan of guns but i'm not going to stop my kids from playing with them either.

I tried to keep guns out of DS array of toys but he makes them out of sticks, lego, his fingers and whatever else he can. DH recently got a nerf gun for a birthday present and DS has been playing with it. I do not like it but I have accepted that there is going to be some sort of gun play in my house.

I will never allow DS to have guns that look real and when DH picked up a nerf toy with a vest and bullets I said that it looked too much like what you see mass killers wearing so that type of thing will never be allowed.

Having seen the result of my DS playing the Avengers xbox game I am more worried about violent video games than I am about a plastic toy now to be honest.

My 6 year old daughter makes guns out of Lego and starts playing killing games. Not sure where she is getting it from because we don't play any kind of video games, nor do we watch violent tv shows. I tell her I don't like it and discourage it. She's not allowed to say she's killing someone or point it in their faces.

Water guns I'm okay with and NERF guns are okay too...but I don't like anything that looks like a real gun and they won't be allowed in our house.

I'm okay with it, unless they fire something out other than water. My brother had one that shot out little hard foam balls, and he'd chase me and the dog around with it. it hurt to get shot with it, and it was a stupid toy. My kids won't get toys like that which they can taunt animals and siblings with.

I played with guns as a kid. Water pistols are awesome Summer backyard toys and I used to play with toy guns when I played games where we deemed it appropriate.

Shockingly enough, I have yet to actually shoot someone. I'm also anti-gun and glad we don't have gun laws like the US.

I'm also not a terribly violent person (though I'd kind of like to be at times... I have some people I'd quite like to punch... lol).

I don't think toy weapons create dangerous, violent people.

ITS ALL THE SAME THING TO ME.
See I don't quite agree with this. A Police Officer or Soldier is a profession and one highly respected. A suicide bomber is not. The comparison between them is ridiculous. My kids pretend to be many things - chefs, mechanics, race car drivers etc. I wouldn't encourage my kids to pretend play 'war' but if they did I'd take it as a chance to educate them on the subject. I sort of understand what your saying but it's a bit of a cop out because children pretend to be many things so I dont see why it should be different in this case.

I don't mean any offence, just answering your question.

I really, really don't like it (boys or girls.) Though that doesn't stop DS from asking.

There was a kid in the supermarket car park the other day standing up out of the sunroof with a toy rifle, picking off everyone in the car park. He looked straight at me, and pretended to shoot, then my 4yo DS and 1yo DD.
I know it's only "pretend" but it still really freaked me out!
