Default Babysitting: Would this be ok with you???

I wouldn't even leave children with a 16 year old! They may seem capable but when there is an emergency they dont have the decision making ability or maturity to make a fast correct decision.

I know of a situation where teenagers were babysitting younger kids, a house fire started, they took the little ones upstairs. The older kids panicked and climbed out the windows and escaped, the little ones died.

Not fair on the older kids either as they have to somehow cope and live with their poor choices in a situation they shouldn't have been allowed in.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

Definitely not okay IMO! Whats the point of your ex having DS overnight if he goes out til 3am?! Like PP said, what happens if theres an emergency?! I wouldn't leave my child with anyone under 16-17.

I don't get these men. Ffs you don't see your child that often, can you not make plans other nights? Do you not want to spend every precious moment with your child since you see them so little?

    Rant over.

And too young in my eyes. Have them looking after the kids while your working in another room and not to be disturbed, or having a shower, or mowing lawn etc... But there needs to be an adult close to hand in case of emergency

Forgive any weird substitutions... Silly phone, but I still love it

I called DOCS and they said there is no legal age as it depends on the maturity of the 11 year old and what supports they have been given in case of an emergency. I'm assuming anyone who leaves an 11 year old in charge would not be even considering a back up for emergency. Grrr.

Have you mentioned to him that it makes you uncomfortable and why?

Maybe he just hasn't thought about the potential problems that could arise? By talking to him before talking to lawyers and getting the police involved (as suggested by a previous post) you could resolve the issue without potentially creating drama.

He might be more inclined to see it your way if you approach him first.

I wouldn't be happy at all. I would be telling the ex that if he planned on going out, to not bother having the child in the first place... what is the point?!

I'd be absolutely furious. You poor thing

No I wouldn't be happy, but more because I would be wondering why he needs to go out on the nights he has his child. As for the babysitting, I might be in the minority here because that doesn't bother me that much. It might be because I was looking after myself at that age and also babysitting other children. But, I would expect to be asked, I would want to meet the girl to see how mature she is, , I would want to decide for myself if I approve and I would want to know when it was happening and have the girls number so I could contact her when I wanted to. Getting a young girl to babysit without my knowledge and approval is absolutely not on.
