We did a wishing well with a poem saying if people wanted to give us something money towards our honeymoon would be most appreciated. All the weddings I have been to have done this so didn't feel awkward. We didn't include the poem in the overseas invites as we just wanted them to attend, but they asked around and found out that's what we did and gave us money anyway. I personally couldn't not give a gift to a wedding, so if nothing was specified I would probably give cash or a voucher.

We gently said gifts were not necessary or expected, but did have options if people did want to gift. Some did, some didn't. I was surprised though that so many ppl didn't give a card?
Even if you said no gifts, I would want to gift, but might ease up on what I bought.
