You can get quotes online from removalists. You just have to be specific when listing all your furniture, number of boxes, pot plants etc. They have online forms you can complete and some will send quotes from several companies.

I'm in the northern suburbs of Melbourne and I've just finished getting quotes for when we move in 4 weeks. We will be paying $119 per hour which includes 6 tonne truck and 2 men. We have to pay 30 minute travel time which is from there depot to our house. Normally you would also pay from new house back to there depot as well but as our quote was given incorrectly they have waive this fee. We are in a 3 bedroom house and think it should take about 3-4 hours in total as we are only moving about 2 kms away.

When we moved last year we paid around $800. We moved from a 2br 3rd floor unit to a house in the same suburb.
You will pay different rates for Saturday and Sunday compared to weekdays too. So, if you can move on a weekday it will be a bit cheaper.
Our girls had a box each with toys etc that they wanted to play with that we packed but kept open just ready to close before we moved.

Cost of moving house
We moved recently and found our removalist truck though gumtree. We got a large truck and 2 men for $80/hour. We moved a 3 bedroom house of stuff in 3 hours although we did move some of the small stuff ourselves in the days before. They didn't charge us for travel to or from our house, just the time it took to pack, travel to the new house and unpack. It was a bargain at $240. Cheaper for us than hiring a van and doing it ourselves as you need to pay both for the van and the fuel.

My partner works for a removalist company but we are in brisbane. Pretty sure he said once they charge $180 an hour from the time they turn up to your house and start packing/loading the truck and every hour after that you have them hired. Its probably best to look around first and get some quotes as some companies are way more expensive than others.

I am going to close this 2yr old thread now as I'm sure the OP would have moved by now and had her questions answered.
