That is a fantastic idea! I told my ds that it was broken and he stopped asking for it after a couple of days but should have done this to prove it to him! Other friends of mine have gone to the shop and let their child pick out a new toy and hand over the dummy in exchange for it.

I didn't plan to take DD's off her when I did. One day she had lost them all and I could not find them and couldn't go get a new one. So I told her they were all gone. That was it, no more dummy and TBH I don't remember it being that bad.

A couple of week later DH and I were moving the couch and found 3 dummies lol, she must have put them down there and forgot.

    Default Ditching the dummy...

DS is also getting a small rash round his mouth from dummy.

He only has it for sleeps or if he's really cranky.

He's also 15 months. Wonder if I should try ditch it too? Maybe after our overseas trip is a better idea!

I might see how she goes without it for going to bed tonight. She doesn't sleep through the night yet so I'm really hoping this means she might start too.

    Default Ditching the dummy...

At the wildlife sanctuary I used to work at a dad brought in his toddler one day. The toddler then handed his dummy to me as his dad explained "this is for the baby koalas who don't have a dummy". Luckily I was quick enough to understand what was going on and let the boy know how thankful the joeys would be. And that was that!
My mum also got rid of my brothers dummy many years ago by pretending to throw it up into the sky explaining "oh, the birdies must have taken it".....he luckily loved this idea and apparently never asked for it again.
