Thanks Micca and Net
I had to ask as I came across comments from Dr Sher at SIRM and he seems to be dead against DHEA and it wobbled me a little. As a result Im going to get my levels checked, as suggested, as I haven't had this done yet. Overall I think my initial thoughts are right: take it but keep a close eye on those pesky hormone levels.
Micca - are you sure it is day 3 that they test as I read somewhere that tests are on day 21? Also what do they test - is it DHEAS, androsterodione, testosterone, total free testosterone, oestrogen, progesterone?
Results 101 to 110 of 770

wanabe.... dr sher has quite different views to most FSs... he does not like dhea or LH supplementation (luveris) or saizen. Ive had a few friends pay the $$ with him and were not overly impressed with their cycles compared to their old FS... so take what he says with a grain of salt...he is just one of many opinions but he has been around a long time... and some things he says are helpful.
the tests.... day 3... oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone, (you will get a total testosterone profile)
(dhea will really not tell you much as it is the metabolites.. oestrogen and testosterone it produces that you want to test.)
day 21 tests = progesterone... to check if you have ovulated..ie level>20 usually indicates ovulation.

Again, sorry ladies for being MIA…DP and I have been really concentrating on each other and we are travelling along really well now….thank goodness. I have missed you all and also missing getting to know the new ladies….gee, Im probably considered new myself now!!
I popped in a couple of days ago and see we are now on thread number 5!! I caught up on everyone’s news, but I see I have a bit more to do. So whilst I do that, here is what is happening with me.
So where was I upto…. FS wanted to do the exact same protocol for my next FET as my last 2 failed HRT FET cycles, which was Progynova, Prednisolone, Cardiprin, Estrogen Pessaries and then a combination of Estrogen/Progesterone Pessaries.
I wanted FS to incorporate Clexane for my elevated levels of Anti-NuclearAntibodies (ANA), but he wasn’t interest. I also suggested Viagra Pessaries as my lining is on the thinner side, but again he wasn’t interested….mind you, I have been suggesting these for my last couple of cycles and he didn’t think I would really benefit from them. I have 2 embryos left from my donor’s eggs and both DP and I pushed to have both transferred, however, FS flatly refused due to the age (36) of the donor. He agreed to Assisted Hatching of the embryo to be transferred.
DP and I were a bit unhappy that the protocol would be the same, so we sought a second opinion via videoconference with the head FS from my clinic’s head office/clinic based in Perth…that was on 15 August. Also, my clinic has since employed another FS, who would also be at my appointment, so effectively I had 2 pairs of fresh FS eyes looking over my file.
It was the best $200 I have ever spent on a consultation and it went for well over an hour!! Perth FS went right through my file, including my assessment month prior to starting IVF 3 years ago, all my cycles, my hyst/lap 2 years ago (incidentally, he performed the surgery), through to the blood tests and ultrasound results that I had the day before our videoconference….very thorough.
Outcome…he was concerned that my lining was JUST reaching 8mm (if that) by transfer date in all my IVF cycles, given that my lining reached 8.5mm (news to me!) in my assessment month, which was a natural cycle. He also stated that although an independent specialist found no underlying clinical disorder for my rising ANA, the “antibody finding can be relevant to implantation”.
Hallelujah…we are finally getting some answers!!!
Perth FS recommended the following protocol and I didnt even have to suggest anything to him!!!
Starting immediately (15 August):
· Trental– 2 x 400mg daily. (Trental is used to improve blood circulation, typically chronic occlusive arterial disease, however, FS is seeing positive results in improving lining thickness in IVF patients).
· Vitamin E – 1000 IU daily to improve lining thickness.
· Provera – 10mg daily – this was to combat a huge ovarian cyst on my left ovary, which went after 2 weeks on the Provera.
· Pipelle endometrial biopsy. Current data at the clinic shows that the ‘swizzle stick’ effect is showing improved implantation. I had this procedure last week and the results of the biopsy have come back all clear.
· Ultrasound – no cysts. Lining thickness 8.2mm on a natural cycle after being on Trental for a month and a half. Encouraging!
HRT FET Cycle:
· Progynova– 3 x 4mg daily – commencing Day 1.
· Cardiprin– 1 x 100mg daily from Day 2 for implantation.
· 20mg Estrogen Pessaries daily and combination 20mg Estrogen/Viagra Pessaries daily –FS is prepared to prolong my follicular phase using higher dose pessaries in conjunction with Viagra which has a benefit on endometrial vascularity and thickness. FS is aiming for a minimum 8.5mm lining.
· Prednisolone– 2 x 10mg daily for implantation.
· Clexane– 1 x 20mg daily for implantation.
· Finally, combination Estrogen/Progesterone Pessaries.
FS wouldn’t bother putting back 1 embryo…he says the chances of a 47 year old having multiples from younger donor eggs is about 2% or .2% (I can remember) – he says he is prepared to risk it if I am!!! He is going for embryo glue, as his current data supports glue rather than Assisted Hatching (AH), given the technology at my clinic for performing AH.
So thats it….Im glad I have a more robust protocol and cant wait to start, as it has been 5 months. Im just waiting for Day 1 to commence, which hopefully will be over the weekend if my body plays the game!

sunny.... Im so happy to hear from you... I was just thinking how you were going today... Im glad that you and DH are sorting through things and are improving... that is fabulous.
The new FS and protocol sound fantastic what a great outcome... I cant wait to see how you cycle.... my FS is a great believer in throw the kitchen sink in... he also does an endometrial biopsy as well.... I had one 2 weeks ago...which was thankfully clear after I had endometritis on the prior one 2 weeks prior to that. so Im hoping that it helps as well... sounds like you and I will be cycling close together... I start stimming on tuesday...
Im so excited for you...lets hope that this is the one..!!!

Whooo hooo Sunny! awesome outcome with new FS!!! Yeah! Sounds like Micca and I will have another cycle buddy! Just read up on Vitamin D- apparently that helps implantation too.
AFM: AF arrived! BT/US to check baselines tomorrow and if all good CYCLING!!!
Had my first Chinese medicine session today which included acupuncture. next session is Friday- then once a week, twice on ET day. (If BFP keep having acupunture once a week until 12 weeks).
She checked my Yin and Yang (I was thinking 'whatever' but at this point I would EAT a lucky rabbit foot sprinkled with ground 4 leaf clovers if it would help)
She also gave me an extensive list of Yin and Yang tonic foods to have. Yin ones are for the first half of the cycle and Yang for the second half. Luckily I like most of them. She was really nice, she said she won't use herbs during the actual cycle as there reaction to IVF drugs is unknown.
That was a bit of a 'me' post sorry.

Fort that's interesting info re Vitamin D. I've been getting really interested in Nutrition and ready a blog called the Healthy Home Economist. She bases a lot of her stuff on Weston Price. He did studies years ago on native populations where they had good fertility rates, great bones and teeth etc. He wanted to know what they had in common given the variation in their diets etc. For example he studied populations in Africa, Polynesians, Eskimos. All have very different diets but had great health. The common denominator he found was that all had a sacred food that was animal based, rich in vitamins A & D and it was always made available to children and pregnant women. Vitamin D also has a big role to play in thyroid health. Well I shall get off my passionately interested soapbox now.
welcome back Sunny, it looks like you have a great way forward, it must be such a relief to have them finally listening and on the same page.
Micca and Fort good luck with your cycles. Tens, not long now!
