    If this is from the other thread I think the person was talking about polygamous marriages making tax time more difficult.
    I can't see how it would make my tax time more difficult, I'm guessing it would mean another box to tick. I think I could cope with that.

    It would have no bearing on taxation, as the government long ago changed the laws that same sex couples in de facto relationships are treated like married couples. Just like how my opposite sex partner and I are treated the same as a married couple for tax purposes.

    Same for Centrelink, superannuation and other financial things. Nothing would change.

    eta: but having a marriage or registered civil partnership makes it easier for the couple as they do not have to "prove" they are in a relationship, as the marriage/registration is proof in itself. this comes up in situations like making a claim for your deceased partner's superannuation.
