Hi, my DD is 5.5 months and breast fed. I started to introduce solids around a month ago. Make my own baby food fruit and veges only so far, she isn't a fan of baby rice so only occasionally give it. I have noticed in the last fortnight her B movements have become more like kangaroo droppings than what I have previously seen. Somedays she has no issues going and others I can see her straining to go. I just want to know if this is normal for moving to solids or if her B Movements shouldn't look like this yet and I should get something for constipation ?? Sorry if too much info.

Baby Bowel Movements
My understanding is that the closer they move to pellet-like consistency then it is constipation.
Perhaps increase the frequency of BF for a few days.
I also add prunes and pears to my DS fruit mix if I am concerned he is heading down this path. Always sorts things out quickly.

Hi OP, I would expect with the introduction of solids for bubs no.2's to firm up, but still be soft enough so she doesn't have to strain too much. Baby rice is well know for causing constipation so if she isn't keen I wouldn't bother with it myself. Do you offer water after a meal, she my just need a little extra liquid. I gave DS pears for breakfast everyday when he started solids as these are high in fibre. I've also heard of people giving pureed prunes, or a bit of prune juice to help.
