Default Help me to be less scared

    I was petrified of dentists.
Until I had a wisdom tooth come it that was pushing all my teeth forward and massively infected.
I had chronic migraines and could barely eat for weeks.
Went to the dentist and he removed the tooth within 30 minutes.
The pain afterwards was NOTHING compared to what I had put myself through by putting it off cause of my fear.
Once that tooth was gone I felt so healthy!

Why not do sedation dentistry next time?

You get an IV sedation, and it's like falling asleep. You're awake, but there's no pain, you don't remember any of it, and the healing time is quicker because you're not anxious or in pain.

I get it because of my epilepsy that teams up in fun and exciting ways with my dentist phobia, even for checkups.

You talk gibberish afterwards sometimes, and sleep like mad, but the last thing I remember is the needle going in. Even though they say they talked to me through the entire thing, and I was able to have a drink of water and walk out to the car {I didn't drive!!} without assistance.

It's a bit more expensive. I go to the dentist in Bentleigh East and they are AWESOME!

Thanks for all the replies guys... Today is D Day and I am shaking... I am going to have a few vallium. My mum has some and the dentist is connected to my Dr surgery so I will just pop in and see my doc first and make sure it is ok to have it.

Obviously thanks to my anxiety I have built this up to be huge in my head so I don't think I will cope unless I take something lol.

    Good idea!
No point causing yourself unnecessary anxiety.

Good luck you will be fine. By this arvo it will be all over.

    You'll be great!

I had all mine our separately in the chair.

Put the sunnies on, close your eyes and remember the anaesthetics are great. Make sure you get some fortes for afterwards and take as prescribed and constantly wash your mouth with salt water. By tomorrow morning you'll be feeling pretty good.

Oh forgot make sure you have someone to take you home.
Driving and Valium are not a good mix.

Also ask for a script for pain killers (panadine forte) from your dentist for the pain afterwards.

Glad to hear it went well.
I've got the second of three root canal work this Saturday. It's uncomfortable but I'm looking on the positive, I get to lie down for an hour, in peace, with no child disturbing me.
