Default Kids bike to ride on grass?

We're staying with my mother at the moment while we build a house and as she lives on acreage there are heaps of beautiful grassy spaces around but not a lot of concrete or roads.

DS1 has a fabulous scooter (thanks to the wonderful ladies on here suggesting the maxi micro to us ) but he can't ride it on the grass and is desperate to ride something.

He hasn't learnt to ride a bike yet (due to lack of interest mainly) so I was thinking this might be a good time to get him one - with the added bonus that falling on grass doesn't hurt as much

Can anyone suggest a good all terrain bike for kids? Or do you think the training wheels will make it impossible?

(obviously can pop down to bike shop but am likely to get more honesty here!)

Why not consider a balance bike to encourage his confidence in riding without training wheels?
My DS has been confidently zooming around since about 15mths

Get him a balance bike for sure. DS had one for nearly a year and went straight to riding without training wheels after using the balance bike daily for several months. Highly recommend them.

He's four, but quite tall for his age. I do like the idea of a balance bike if I can find one that will suit a taller kid....

OH, i would think they would be too small for a 4 or 5 year old

    Try a BMX maybe.
