If it were me, and I know you're not, I'd take the job. You really will need some experience, and you're best off using your skills while they're fresh, iykwim?

As for living arrangements, call the hospital and ask if they know of anyone you can rent a room from. It'll be cheaper to share with others, and no lease to worry about if you hate it there. Then once you have some experience, you'll be more employable at a hospital you'd rather work at, so take your o/s trip then come back and work somewhere better.

As for gym membership, if it's a big chain gym, they may let you transfer or suspend your membership for a fixed period of time. Call and ask.

Do it! As a midwife the most amazing experiences are had in obscure places. Best of luck.

How big is the team up there? Is it a grad position? How much support are you going to be given? When I finish my degree I am going to head into a big hospital, if any are left, to get as much exposure as possible to do difficult things. I am doing a rural placement at the moment, and all the complex or difficult cases get sent to bigger city hospitals. So whilst it is a nice gentle placement, just not getting the exposure I want.
