Yes I would. I'd tell them to be careful but I think let kids be kids. And I remember playing with big sticks so it's not just a boy thing.

Not an issue for me... and how sad for children to have to miss such a fun part of childhood for fear of *something* that may happen.. I'm sitting on my couch right now, but perhaps I shouldn't be in case a car crashes in through the window? You just never know..

Proper education and rules about when and how to play with sticks, and Bob is your uncle.

Sticks don't poke out eyes, people poke out eyes

Yes the other mum was actually quite embarrassing ( her husband seemed mortified!) she just sat there and kept making loud comments like " I can't believe she's letting them play with that" or " you watch one of them will lose an eye" and then after about 5 mins she started yelling out to the other mother , the boys were no where near the other families and seemed like they were having a great time, we left after they started yelling at each other as DS was getting tired anyway plus it sort of put a dampener on the afternoon!
DH actually made a good point that the mum and the boys with the stick were laughing and playing and having a great time whereas the other mum, her DH and 2 kids were all just sitting on the beach looking quite bored!

Lol they need a life I think. What next, kids using their imaginations? It wasn't a plastic do dad made by fisher price?

Oh gawd.... Yes DS can play with them. At 2,5yo he can have a stick the same size as him. If it is longer/taller, than maybe not until he's a bit older.
Also, if he's being sensible with it and not throwing/poking it towards other kids and adults, he can play with it as long as he wants.

    Of course
I would have told them to be careful and don't hit each other with it but i don't have any issue with the stick in general.
