The placenta has a limited life span and more likely to reduce its life span at this time.
About 500 inductions are done to prevent one baby from dying. Babies born after this time are at increased risk of becoming distressed during labour, increasing the woman's chance of needing an emergency cs.

So considering the op isn't too far off the 42 week mark I personally think the dr is being sensible in suggesting an induction and it shouldn't be disputed. I bet if something terrible did happen considering the op decided against drs advice she would be the first to put the blame on someone else... as often is the case unfortunately... Working in risk management I see it all the time
Honestly 1:500 is a risk I'd be willing to take. I had a vbac and the risk of a uterine rupture is 1:200 which didnt bother me at all.

Risk management and risk assessment is different for everyone.

I just want to pop in and say good on you for researching and following your instincts and heart. I had an induction at 41 weeks with my first on hospital policy and while it was a great uncomplicated birth I believe she was not ready and would have come in her own time.

Best wishes for your very imminent birth and baby. xx

Default Forced into induction @ 40+9

What a fantastic midwife! I hope the hospital realise how lucky they are to have her!

Congrats on your darling son and well done for having the strength to stick to your guns regarding not being forced into induction!
