Default Getting ready for IVF in Dec

    Hi ladies,

I'm a newbie here and after reading many posts I thought I'd finally have my own input. What a great site! I'm looking forward to hearing from anyone who is working towards IVF in the next few months either first try or more. My DH and I have been ttc for 18 months and have discovered my DH has poor morphology. For the last year we were both seeing a Nathuropath and taking herbs and suppliments but unfortunately it didn't work. We are now currently having accupunture and hoping we will fall pregnant this way but if not I'll be starting IVF in Dec. Does anyone have any tips to prepare for IVF? My DH is a keen mountain bike rider, is this something he should subside while we are trying? Thanks for listening!!

    Hi there
Just wanted to wish you all the best with your IVF journey and welcome to the forum. You will find lots of help and support in here, there are many ladies going through the same thing.

It took us 5 years to conceive our bub, we found out eventually that my hubby has nil sperm. We needed a sperm donor in the end. I had insemination and was successful after 3 tries. Can't they start you on insemination (either with hubby's or donor sperm)? or do you have to go straight into IVF?
I know everyone's situation is different, but I was curious to know if this was an option for you as it's alot less invasive (and cheaper too).
All the best, I hope you have a soon!

    Smile Count me in...

    Hey helenmac,

My DH and I will be starting IVF (hopefully) in December. We have our first appointment on Dec 4. I imagine I will have a few more tests before we start but at least we will be working towards it.

I too would like to know if there is anything I can do to prepare for IVF. I am planning to do a detox program in November and have already been at the gym since July. I don't consider myself to be overweight but would like to lose a few kilos.

I wish you the very best for your journey!

    Hello Helenmac,

Just wanted to wish you all the best on your IVF journey . We concieved our son through IVF as well and my hubby has a low sperm count. He underwent a 6 week acupunture course and we believed it helped us with our treatment.

Good luck and keep us updated on your progress.

Default Great to hear from you all...!

    Hi Ladies,

Thanks for all your replies of advise and support!

KBL2703 - it looks like we'll be starting IVF around the same time in Dec. You mentioned you've made an appointment on Dec 4th does that mean you'll start of with the nasal spray from that date? With the clinic I'm going to, you have to ring up the first day of your period (I'm due Dec 5th) and then 22 days later you go in for your first appointment (in my case it will be day 18 otherwise it falls on Boxing Day!). I guess everywhere is different but thats what they do at IVF Australia for IVF. Good luck with your detox, I did one two and felt terrific afterwards. Make sure you drink loads of water, at least 2 litres a day. Have you considered accupunture?

Hels Bels - (which is a pet name my father calls, me by the way). Our doctor suggested we try IUI first but we decided to go straight to IVF which I know is very invasive and full on but the success rate is much higher then IUI. We feel that we don't want to waste anymore time and would prefer to go with the one that will give us a better chance. Financially we are okay so thats not really an issue for us.

Is there anyone else out there thats about to embark on IVF in the next few months? I would love to start up a Dec/Jan group and of course an input from anyone is always welcome!

Smile Your little buddy....if you need me!

    Hey helenmac,

My DH and I have had to switch to another clinic because we weren't happy with our previous specialist. I am not sure if they will want to do more testing before we can start (DH had poor SA results). I am keen to get going as soon as possible though.

Good luck. I think my first cycle day will be on or around Dec 4 anyway.

    Kathy

Helenmac, Welcome and good luck with your ivf journey. We conceived id twins from ivf. I did loose 18 kilos but that was not because I was doing ivf it was just to get healtier.

So just looking after yourselves and trying to remain positive but realistic throughout the process. I didn't try accupunture so I don't have the answers for you re that.

Good luck and do pop back and let us know how you get on.
