We're looking at Life insurance now that we have a baby. We got the 'trauma' option as well as TPD.
The company came back and said that since DW had gestational diabetes in 2011, they want to exclude her for ‘Severe diabetes’ and ‘Adult insulin dependent diabetes mellitus’. She has no other family history of diabetes at all.
However they won't lower the premium for what is now a lower cover.
Is this normal? Gestational diabetes affects up to 10% of pregancies, and is unrelated to other diabetes. Sounds like a money grab to me.
