Default Placenta previa, just trying to scare people?

So, I had my 19 week scan and thought it was all good.

However because the placenta was three cm(ish) from the cervix at the time they want to do a repeat scan

    ???

    Why?

Surely if it was that far away at the 19 week scan there wouldn't be a problem?
I thought they moved up, now down?

    ***Update***

I had a repeat ultrasound at just past 31 weeks pregnant.
The placenta is posterior and less than 2cm from the cervix.

The doctor wants to re scan at 34/35 weeks.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm 32 weeks now.

I feel quite sad about this, I especially hate not knowing and therefore not being able to prepare myself mentally for the birth.

To be honest I'm scared of the unknown

At my 20 week scan, they told me that the standard was for it to be at least 2cm away from cervix, and any less than 2cm, they recommend a repeat scan at 34 weeks.

Mine was 1.8cm away, but after talking to my midwife I'm not worrying about another scan.

    I don't know why 3cm would be a problem.

Yeah that seems silly to do a repeat scan if it's already 3cm away.

Glad I'm not crazy then! Well, not completely

I'm wondering if the dr checked my file properly. He wasn't my normal one and seemed... Odd.

I had placenta previa and had to have weekly scans from 31 weeks. It was very scary and I had the same fear of the unknown.

I'm hesitant to tell my story because it wasn't smooth sailing. I had to have a c-section at 37 weeks with only 1 days notice. But the good news is that I now have a beautiful 2 year old. And most people have everything turn out fine, chances are everything will be fine for you too.

I hope everything works out well for you, and if you have any questions feel free to PM me.
