Slat, simply because their rooms are tiny so I could use under the bed for storage.

    ^^ this

Slats allow you to store toys under their beds, then as they get older you can get a trundle for when they have sleepovers

You can get ensembles with built in trundles now too Im so confused as to whats the best to buy. We have an ensemble and its been great. But dont know if im better to get DD a slat bed, just a cheaper one and buy a top of the range mattress or go with a good quality ensemble. So many choices!

I'd got slat but that is because i really don't like ensemble beds they just irritate me for some reason. i agree with the storage under the bed too and that for resale in 20 years time i'd still be able to sell the base of a slat bed but i doubt you'd be able to see an ensemble base so its cheaper and i will still get money back when the time comes

Slats here too. DD1 has a trundle and our twins need storage under their beds.

eta: We have an ensemble ourselves and I wish we didn't. We got it because we were given the drawers etc with a bedhead with the ensemble base a long time ago. We decided to buy a new bed last year and I wish we didn't get the ensemble and just got a slat bed. (although it wouldn't have matched) Looks like the bedhead is braking now anyway.

King single with slats. Purely because he went into it at 2 yrs and it is closer to the floor.
We also started with a mattress on the floor until he didn't roll off which was only about a week
