Good question this is a tricky one. I am for an against i think for some people like reoffenders maybe its the only way to go either that or they need to be locked up and the key be destroyed there is only so many chances someone should be given before enough is enough.

I am against because i see that an 'eye for an eye' doesn't really work in all cases and killing someone for killing someone is punishing the behaviour with the same behaviour and seems kind of pointless.

I don't want them to bring it back to australia but i don't disagree with the countries that still do it

oh and for one of the other posters with the countries that use the firing squad as far as i know there are 10 gunman and only one has a bullet the rest are firing blanks and none know who fired the bullet

If it was my child or parent that did something heinous such as taking the life of a child or someone else (and I don't mean through accident either - I mean like Martin bryant type person or Ivan milatt) I'd have no problem with it. I'd be depressed but if my child did something like that they'd be dead to me anyway.

Wow. I could never hate someone enough to kill them.

I agree with this statement. It makes my blood boil when I see the family of a proven murderer/molester/rapist standing by them insisting that they are either innocent or don't deserve punishment. Disgusting.

Of course they deserve punishment, but to commit murder, or want someone else to commit murder??? That in itself is punishable!

    Wow. Just wow.

All I can say, is I hope to the very core of my being that none of you ever find yourself in that situation.

I think you would find it is a whole lot harder than you seem to think it is.

I was only agreeing with the "my child would be dead to me" sentiment. They really would be. I would want nothing to do with them anymore, if they were proven to have committed such acts. Hell, if I could I'd be the one to lock them up and throw away the key. Then probably want to go and throw myself off a cliff for being responsible for bringing someone like that into the world.

    But I'm getting OT now!

Wow, so much empathy for the monsters that have committed the most sickening of crimes

The death penalty is far too kind for human filth such as the murderers of Anita Cobby, who are *without any shadow of a doubt*, guilty. Thankfully they are never to be released, and I think sentences like theirs should be far more common.

I'm not pro or anti death penalty, I just want to see rotten scum incarcerated for periods that reflect the severity of their crimes.

If life in prison actually meant life in prison, then I would 100% be against it. As it is, I think there are just some crimes so horrifying that the person should never get a second chance, and yet they seem to all the time. In certain circumstances, I admit - I wish the death penalty was applied.
