My 15 month old DS is having a Barium Swallow done on Monday and I'm just wanting to hear from other mums what actually happens during the procedure. So if you've got a child around the same age who has had one please share your experience.

Hi My DD has had many barrium studies done.
The radiologists will put your LO in a spcial chair on the xray bed, and ask them to drink some milk or water or whatever with barrium in it. They may do thickened foods, thin fluids, lumpy foods etc, depending on why they are testing.
The barrium in the food will show up on real time xray so they can see how LO swallows and how it makes its way down.
If you have any questions, i'd be happy to answer them

Thanks living on paper, at this stage I think they are only going to be giving it to him in his milk. Hopefully it all goes well
