Hi. Can anyone answer a question for me? This year is the first time for me to lodge a tax return here as we had been living overseas for 11 years till last August. I estimated our household income at $84000 and thought this might be slightly high as my hours are very unpredictable. Based on our group certificates it seems I overestimated by $8000 to $10000 dollars. I got about a total if $600 in Centrelink benefits last year and paid 60-70% of daycare costs. After I lodge my tax return does it go automatically to Centrelink? Is it possible to get money back from them or is that like getting blood from a stone??! Does anybody know?

I always over estimate our income significantly (allow for higher duties/more hours) and usually receive a top up payment from Centrelink (if entitled to a payment) around the time I receive my tax refund.
