On the Gold Coast at 19, I put $3 in the pokies (not much of a player lol) and won $400, 2 free drinks and 2 free meals, so I gave the drink and meal voucher to my mum and uncle, her brother, who were also with us, then used it to go to Seaworld with my parents, uncle and younger brother.

I haven't been gifted money, but I have gifted money to others in the past that made a big difference in their lives, and I feel lucky to have been able to do that. I always work very hard, but save hard too, and if someone in my close circle needs something, I will help.
Anything from 5-10k, a car, 200 a week for a year to help out etc.
To me this was a gift back as I know how much these were all appreciated x

I got $5000 from my late great grandmother 5 years ago, she passed away in her sleep in january and I found out in July that I was to get the money, which I wasn't expecting. My son Leon had just been born and we had very little furniture so I used the money to buy furniture for our house getting ds bed a bed frame for our mattress as well as a sofa etc.

We recently received 25k from my parents. They never had much money when we were growing up and now that they're in a good financial position after all that work, they want to help us. My brother and I are incredibly grateful and we'll only use the money for investing - buying a house or renovating etc.
Eventually DH and I are hoping to use it to upgrade to a bigger house. It's sitting in our offset account at the moment reducing our interest payments for this house and is our safety net. We've just started TTC #2 so it's good to have it there.

MIL and FIL actually loaned us some $$$ to help out with DPs college fees last year and just told us not to worry about paying it back (I shall slip future grandchildren into all similar conversations from now on ) so I suppose that counts as a gift? $5k we don't have to worry about paying back
